Ingredients for Santa’s Favorite Molasses Ginger Cookies
2 C All-Purpose Flour
1 tsp Baking Soda
1 tsp Ground Cinnamon
1 tsp Ground Ginger
½ tsp Ground Cloves
½ tsp Salt
¾ C Shortening or Butter
1 ¼ C Granulated Sugar (reserve ¼ C)
2 Tbsp Molasses
1 Large Egg
(Makes 20 cookies)
Instructions: Baking Santa’s Favorite Molasses Ginger Cookies
In a medium bowl, combine flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, salt and cloves. In a large bowl, beat shortening with electric mixer on medium speed for 30 seconds, add 1 cup sugar and beat until fluffy. Add egg and molasses. Beat until combined. Add flour mixture and beat on low speed until well combined. Shape into 1 ½ inch balls. Dip into a small bowl of water and a bowl of ¼ cup sugar. (For a lighter coating, just dip in sugar.) Arrange balls 3 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake in a 350-degree oven for 15 minutes or until light brown on bottoms. Cool the cookies on wire racks.
